The app walks you through four photos — top-down, angled, a close-up of any hallmark, and the reverse — and scores each one for sharpness, light and framing before it is sent. Our AI then examines colour, surface, wear, construction and the hallmark against reference data on precious metals. You get a likely metal, a confidence figure, and a plain list of what raised or lowered that confidence.

It is an informed estimate, not a laboratory assay, and the confidence figure tells you how much to trust it. Sharp, well-lit photos, a readable hallmark, a reference object for scale and a known weight all raise it; a single blurry photo caps it. The app is very good at narrowing down what a piece is likely to be and roughly what it is worth, which is usually enough to decide whether something is worth taking to a jeweller. For insurance, resale at scale or anything legally binding, get a professional appraisal.

The estimate multiplies the weight — the one you enter, or an estimate from the photos — by the purity we read or assume for the metal, and by the live market price per gram at the time of the scan. Plated and gold-filled pieces are valued on the metal that is actually there, not on their colour. Because spot prices move constantly, the figure is a snapshot, and the range around it reflects how certain the identification is.

No. The value checker tells you for free, from a single photo, whether a piece is likely worth selling — without signing up. You only need an account to save scans, get a value estimate and export your results.

Yes, at any time. Subscriptions bought on iOS or Android are billed through the App Store or Google Play, so you cancel in your store account — the app links you straight there from the billing screen. Subscriptions bought on the web are managed from the web app, which links you to the billing portal. Either way, you keep access until the end of the period you have paid for.

Yes. Any scan can be exported as a formatted PDF report, and your history can be exported as CSV for a spreadsheet. Both are included with Beginner and Professional.
